students' day ("walpurgis")! the day for anyone who's ever graduated highschool/gymnasium. compared to other towns uppsala has the biggest celebration in sweden. first, the timer on this building hits 0, everyone puts on their graduation caps and then a men's choir sings. this year they sang in swedish and (for some reason) estonian.

after that, everyone does "hanami" except there's not really any flowers to "watch".
「forbidden to take with (you to this place)!:portable grills, furniture, glass」

「for a better walpurgis:for every (1 bottle of alcohol), (1 bottle of) water」. meaning, don't get too drunk.

may's "flower pins"。the money goes to charity.

「buy mayflowers and you help children who have it tough in your area! the collected money goes to, among other things: free-time activities, glasses, winter-clothes, gym shoes, summer activities, bicycles and other things that most (people) take for granted」. though i don't take any of that for granted because i don't have the money for it myself...

easter
st = piece。1 st 20 = 20 each (20 per 1 item)

big eggs (made of metal or cardboard) are bought and filled with candy (not money).

small eggs are, together with fake feathers, put up on fenches, bushes, and trees.

summer is "crawdad festival time". you buy crawdads, and together with your family, friends, neighbours etc you do stuff like sing, drink and of course eat the crawdads. i haven't really done it though (since my wife's family doesn't do it, nor do they talk to their neighbours)...

it's also mushroom-picking time.

since there's poison mushrooms too, be careful when you're out picking mushrooms in the forest!
